Individual Therapy
Break free from old patterns & build the life you want.
Maybe you’ve noticed the same patterns playing out in your life, whether in relationships, in the way you respond to emotions, or in the thoughts that keep running through your mind. You might feel weighed down by anxiety or self-doubt, frustrated that no matter how hard you try, things don’t seem to change.
Perhaps past experiences still have a hold on you, shaping how you see yourself and others. Or maybe you just feel exhausted. Tired of overthinking, of second-guessing yourself, of carrying so much on your own.
If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
The way we feel, cope, and relate is often shaped by life experiences we didn’t choose. Sometimes those experiences leave lasting imprints that show up in the present, even when we don’t want them to.
Therapy can offer a space to feel more like you again, less overwhelmed by the past, less stuck in patterns that don’t serve you, and more able to respond to life in ways that feel like the real you. Rather than being frozen or caught up in the past, over time, many people find they feel more connected, more self-compassionate, and more confident in how they relate to others, themselves and their past experiences.
In our work together, we’ll gently explore your patterns. That might mean looking at the beliefs you hold about yourself, the ways you protect yourself emotionally, or the memories that still feel too present.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps people move past the thoughts, feelings, and reactions that feel stuck.
Sometimes, life experiences linger in ways we don’t expect. You might find yourself feeling anxious without knowing the reason, reacting strongly to certain situations, or struggling with a sense of self-doubt that won’t shift. EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess these experiences, so they feel less emotionally charged and easier to make sense of.
The process involves guided bilateral stimulation — usually side-to-side eye movements or butterfly taps — which helps the brain link together past experiences, current understanding, and new, more helpful perspectives.
EMDR can be helpful for a range of difficulties, including anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, grief, and past experiences that still seem to hold some emotional weight. Many people describe feeling clearer, calmer, and more in tune with themselves after working this way.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy is a deeply compassionate and structured approach that helps us make sense of the patterns we fall into — especially the ones that leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or not quite good enough.
These patterns often have their roots in early experiences. When important emotional needs weren’t met (like feeling safe, accepted, or understood), we develop ways of coping — like pushing people away, trying to be perfect, or always putting others first. At the time, those strategies helped us survive. But as adults, they can cause problems in how we feel about ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we manage emotions.
In Schema Therapy, we work together to gently identify and understand these patterns, known as “schemas” or “modes”, and begin to meet those early needs in healthier ways. This might involve building self-compassion, challenging harsh inner voices, or experimenting with new ways of relating. It’s a therapy that combines emotional depth with practical change, helping you feel more secure in yourself and more in control of how you respond to life.
Wondering how it works?
How do I know which approach is right for me?
You don’t have to figure that out on your own. In our initial sessions, we’ll talk through what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and what’s felt stuck. From there, I’ll suggest the approach – or combination of approaches – that’s likely to be most helpful
Do I need to talk about everything that’s happened to me?
Not at all. Both Schema Therapy and EMDR are flexible approaches that move at your pace. You don’t need to share every detail for therapy to be effective. We’ll focus on what feels manageable, and I’ll support you in finding a way of working that feels safe and useful.
Can Schema Therapy and EMDR be combined?
Yes – and often they’re really complementary. Schema Therapy helps us make sense of longstanding patterns and beliefs, while EMDR can gently shift the emotional charge linked to specific memories or experiences. If it makes sense for your goals, we can weave them together.
Will I feel worse before I feel better?
That’s a common concern, and while therapy can sometimes bring up difficult emotions, it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. We’ll build in ways to stay grounded and supported throughout, and I’ll always work collaboratively with you to make sure the pace feels right.
What if I’ve had therapy before and it didn’t help?
That’s more common than you might think. Schema Therapy and EMDR are often helpful for people who feel like they’ve talked things through but nothing really shifted. These approaches go a bit deeper and can help us understand the patterns that keep showing up and begin to change them at the root. It’s okay to feel unsure, and we’ll go at your pace.
What if I’m not sure where to start?
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to have it all figured out before coming to therapy. Part of our work together is making sense of what’s going on. We’ll take it step by step, and I’ll help guide the process so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming. Use the form below to reach out and get started.
